There is now a growing amount of audio content about Functional Neurological Disorder. Some of it is excellent. Some of it is highly technical. Some is rooted in lived experience. And, as with almost everything written or recorded about FND, some will fit your experience better than others.

I have brought together twenty episodes that I believe offer something useful: a clearer explanation, a thoughtful clinical perspective, practical guidance or the reassurance of hearing from someone who understands the condition from the inside.

This is not a treatment plan, and no podcast can take the place of an individual clinical assessment. Think of it as a listening library. Start with the subject that matters most to you now. You do not need to absorb everything at once.

If you are new to FND, begin here

1. Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) with Dr Chris Symeon and Dawn Golder

Podcast: The Sunflower Conversations

Host: Chantal Boyle

Guests: Dr Chris Symeon and Dawn Golder

Available through: Official web player/Buzzsprout and major podcast apps, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

The Sunflower Conversations explores non-visible disabilities and the experiences of the people who live with them. Chantal Boyle brings together professional knowledge and lived experience without making one subordinate to the other. In this episode, consultant neuropsychiatrist Dr Chris Symeon and FND Hope UK advocate Dawn Golder answer questions about what FND is, how it is diagnosed and why treatment can be difficult to access. This is probably the most accessible place to begin.

2. David Perez

Podcast: The FND Society Podcast

Host: Dr Erica Cotton

Guest: Dr David PerezL

Available through: FND Society website, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

The FND Society Podcast is hosted by clinical neuropsychologist Dr Erica Cotton and connects listeners with clinicians and researchers working directly in the field. Dr David Perez is dual-trained in neurology and psychiatry and directs the Functional Neurological Disorder Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital. Their conversation covers positive diagnostic signs, the move away from diagnosis by exclusion, multidisciplinary care and why treatment needs to be shaped around the individual. It is detailed, but unusually clear.

3. Functional Neurological Disorder with Dr Patricia Rosebush

Podcast: PsychEd: Educational Psychiatry Podcast — Episode 71

Hosts: The PsychEd clinical education team

Guest: Dr Patricia Rosebush

Available through: Spotify and the principal podcast directories carrying PsychEd.

PsychEd is made by Canadian psychiatry clinicians and educators. Its purpose is to make psychiatric knowledge practical and understandable. This episode provides a structured introduction to FND from a psychiatric perspective and is particularly useful for clinicians, students and readers who want to understand why FND sits across traditional medical boundaries.

4. Functional Neurological Disorder Across Europe: Bridging Gaps in Neurology Training and Clinical Practice

Podcast: EANcast: Weekly Neurology — Episode 195

Host: Dr Veronica Cabreira

Guests: Professors Mark Edwards and Jon Stone

Available through: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, the EAN platform and other podcast apps.

EANcast is the educational podcast of the European Academy of Neurology. This conversation brings together two of the most influential clinicians in modern FND practice. It examines why such a common condition remains poorly represented in neurological training, how stigma persists and why neurologists should remain involved after giving the diagnosis. It is especially valuable for understanding the healthcare-system problems that patients so often encounter.

Understanding diagnosis and treatment

5. Biba Stanton — Blending Neurology & Psychiatry: Practice Considerations in FND

Podcast: The FND Society Podcast

Host: Dr Erica Cotton

Guest: Dr Biba Stanton

Available through: FND Society website, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Dr Stanton is a consultant neuropsychiatrist and clinical lead for neurology at King’s College Hospital. This is a thoughtful examination of what becomes possible when neurology and psychiatry are allowed to work together rather than passing the patient between them. It is useful for anyone who has felt stranded between services.

6. Clare Nicholson — Occupational Therapy & FND

Podcast: The FND Society Podcast

Host: Dr Erica Cotton

Guest: Clare Nicholson

Available through: FND Society website, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Clare Nicholson is an occupational therapist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. This episode moves the conversation into everyday life: routines, activities, sensory experience, independence and participation. It is a useful reminder that recovery is not measured only in symptoms. It is also measured in what a person is increasingly able to do and enjoy.

7. Aaron Fobian — Retraining and Control Therapy (ReACT)

Podcast: The FND Society Podcast

Host: Dr Erica Cotton

Guest: Dr Aaron Fobian

Available through: FND Society website, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Clinical psychologist Dr Aaron Fobian developed ReACT, an intervention studied particularly in young people with functional seizures. The discussion explains the treatment model, the role of retraining and the importance of restoring a sense of control. Families and professionals working with children and adolescents will find it especially relevant.

8. Sarah Cope — FND, EMDR, & Psychotherapy

Podcast: The FND Society Podcast

Host: Dr Erica Cotton

Guest: Dr Sarah Cope

Available through: FND Society website, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Dr Sarah Cope is a consultant clinical psychologist and accredited EMDR practitioner. This episode considers where psychotherapy may be helpful, how EMDR can be used in carefully selected circumstances and why no psychological approach should be imposed as a universal explanation for FND. Listen with curiosity rather than as an instruction that one treatment must suit everyone.

9. Beatrice Garcin — TMS in FND

Podcast: The FND Society Podcast

Host: Dr Erica Cotton

Guest: Dr Beatrice Garcin

Available through: FND Society website, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Neurologist Dr Beatrice Garcin discusses transcranial magnetic stimulation, neurological conditions that can coexist with FND and the positive clinical signs used to make the diagnosis. This is a more specialist conversation. It is valuable for understanding emerging treatment research, but it should not be read as evidence that TMS is appropriate or available for every person.

10. Selma Aybek — Identification of Biopsychological Trait Markers in Functional Neurological Disorders

Podcast: The FND Society Podcast

Host: Dr Erica Cotton

Guest: Professor Selma Aybek

Available through: FND Society website, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Professor Aybek discusses neuroimaging, biomarkers and the effort to move beyond the old division between “physical” and “psychological” illness. It is one of the stronger choices for listeners who want to understand what current research can show—and what it cannot yet tell us.

Functional seizures

11. Epileptic & Non-Epileptic Seizure Differential Diagnosis and Management

Podcasts: The FND Society Podcast × ILAE Sharp Waves

Hosts: Dr Erica Cotton and Dr Ayushe Sharma

Guests: An international clinical panel from the FND and epilepsy fields

Available through: FND Society and ILAE channels, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

This extended joint episode brings the FND and epilepsy communities into the same conversation. It examines how epileptic and functional seizures are distinguished, how they may coexist and how diagnosis and management can be communicated more safely. It is substantial and clinically oriented, but highly worthwhile for people affected by functional seizures.

12. Psychogenic Nonepileptic Seizures: What Neurologists Need to Know

Podcast: Neurology Pathways / Cleveland Clinic neurological education

Host and guests: Cleveland Clinic epilepsy and behavioural-health specialists

Available through: Official Cleveland Clinic web player and podcast feeds.

This short clinical discussion focuses on how functional seizures are diagnosed, how the diagnosis is explained and why collaborative treatment matters. Some terminology has changed since it was recorded, but its insistence that the events are real and potentially treatable remains important.

13. Psychogenic Nonepileptic Seizures (PNES)

Podcast: PEM Currents

Host: Dr Brad Sobolewski and the PEM Currents paediatric emergency medicine team

Available through: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, Podbean, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio and PlayerFM.

This concise episode is aimed at clinicians working in paediatric emergency care. It covers recognition, diagnostic strategy and the risks of unnecessary escalation or medication. It is included because emergency responses can materially affect a child or young person’s experience of FND.

14. Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures

Podcast: Rapid Response RN — Episode 128

Host: Sarah Lorenzini

Available through: Apple Podcasts and the main podcast platforms carrying Rapid Response RN.

Critical-care nurse and educator Sarah Lorenzini uses case stories to help nurses distinguish functional seizures from epilepsy and respond with compassion. The episode uses the older PNES terminology and gives weight to psychological factors, so it is best heard alongside newer, broader accounts of FND. Its practical focus on avoiding dismissive care is valuable.

Children and young people

15. Jeff Waugh — Paediatrics FND Current Topics

Podcast: The FND Society Podcast

Host: Dr Erica Cotton

Guest: Dr Jeff Waugh

Available through: FND Society website, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Dr Waugh is a paediatric neurologist and movement-disorders specialist. The episode surveys current questions in paediatric FND and the practical challenges of building care around a developing child and their family. It is one of the most useful recent overviews for parents and paediatric professionals.

16. Julia Doss — Pediatric FND Behavioral Health

Podcast: The FND Society Podcast

Host: Dr Erica Cotton

Guest: Dr Julia Doss

Available through: FND Society website, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Health psychologist Dr Julia Doss works with children and young people experiencing functional seizures and other forms of FND. This discussion explores behavioural-health treatment, family involvement and the importance of adapting care to the young person rather than reducing them to a symptom.

The wider picture

17. Noah Silverberg & Ryan Van Patten — FND & Neuropsychology

Podcast: The FND Society Podcast

Host: Dr Erica Cotton

Guests: Dr Noah Silverberg and Dr Ryan Van Patten

Available through: FND Society website, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Two board-certified neuropsychologists discuss cognitive symptoms, assessment and the role of neuropsychology in FND. It is a particularly helpful choice for people whose difficulties include concentration, memory, mental fatigue or cognitive “fog”—symptoms that can be profoundly disruptive even when they are less visible.

18. Daniel Clauw — Nociplastic Pain

Podcast: The FND Society Podcast

Host: Dr Erica Cotton

Guest: Professor Daniel Clauw

Available through: FND Society website, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Professor Clauw is known for his work on chronic pain and central pain mechanisms. The conversation explores nociplastic pain, terminology, overlapping conditions and how clinicians can discuss complex symptoms without invalidating the patient. It is most relevant for people living with FND alongside persistent pain.

19. A New Science of Emotion: Implications for Functional Neurological Disorder

Podcast: The FND Society Podcast

Host: Dr Erica Cotton

Guest: Dr Johannes JungilligensListen: Official episode page

Available through: FND Society website, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

This is a conceptually rich discussion about interoception, emotion and the nervous system. It asks how bodily signals and emotional experience may be integrated rather than treating mind and body as separate systems. It is not the easiest first listen, but it opens up a more sophisticated way of thinking about FND.

20. Decoding FND — Episode 1: Dr Ioannis Mavroudis

Podcast: Decoding FND

Hosts: Andrew Peters and Nikki Kerr

Guest: Dr Ioannis Mavroudis

Available through: Keoghs’ official web player.

Decoding FND is a three-part specialist series produced in the context of complex injury and legal claims. Consultant neurologist Dr Ioannis Mavroudis discusses FND from a medical and medico-legal perspective. This will not be the right starting point for everyone, but it is useful for professionals—and for patients involved in litigation—who need to understand how diagnosis, causation and the person behind the claim are considered.

Two complete shows worth following

The FND Society Podcast

Hosted by Dr Erica Cotton, this is currently the most substantial specialist FND podcast catalogue. It is primarily intended for clinicians and researchers, but many episodes are accessible to well-informed patients and families. Topics include diagnosis, rehabilitation, occupational therapy, neuropsychology, paediatrics, pain, psychotherapy and neuroscience. Browse every episode.

The FND Podcast with Detty

Detty is a mother, former nurse and person living with FND. Her programme makes room for the practical and emotional realities that clinical education can overlook: diagnosis, flare-ups, family life, work, uncertainty, recovery and simply continuing to show up. It is warm, candid and rooted in connection. Visit The FND Podcast. It is also available on Spotify and podcast platforms carrying the Simplecast feed.

A final note before you listen

FND is not one experience. An episode may contain language, theories or treatment approaches that do not fit you. That does not make your symptoms less real, and it does not mean that you have failed to understand the condition.

Use these conversations as invitations to think and to ask better questions. Keep what helps. Discuss clinical decisions with professionals who know you. And if a particular explanation leaves you feeling blamed, dismissed or reduced to a single cause, you are entitled to ask for a fuller one.
